With many computers needing to be upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the need for clear consistent instructions are needed. The instructions listed are for Dell computers but could be easily adapted for other makes.

Install Windows 10 from Dell Recovery DVD 

    1. Download the Dell Windows 10 Recovery ISO image for your system at this Dell Windows Recovery Image Link
    2. Check in the BIOS (Press F2 at boot), to ensure the BIOS is currently in the UEFI mode and the SATA Controller is set to RAID ON.
      Verify the following settings:
      General
      - Boot Sequence -> UEFI
      - Advanced Boot Option -> Uncheck "Enable Legacy Option ROMs
      - Secure Boot -> select "Secure Boot Enable"
    3. Boot from the Windows 10 recovery DVD (F12 Menu) (UEFI Option > DVD) then press the Enter key
      Note: You may experience a delay (1 to 5 minutes) to boot to the Dell Screen with Spinning Circles.
    4. When prompted, choose your language (English is default)
    5. Choose your region (US Default)
    6. Choose Troubleshoot
    7. Choose Advanced Options
    8. Choose Command prompt
    9. In the Command Prompt window, enter the Command: "diskpart" then press the Enter key (This will open the diskpart application in the command line mode)
    10. Type the next command: "list disk" then press the Enter key
    11. Type: "select disk 0" then press the Enter key (0 usually is the target hard drive where the OS should be installed if there are multiple drives)
    12. Type "clean" then press the Enter key
      WARNING: ALL DATA on the drive will be removed. If you have any data you need backed up, abort this process and backup your data now.
    13. Type "exit" then press the Enter key (2 times)
    14. Power down the system then restart.
    15. Choose UEFI DVD boot option then press the Enter key
    16. Dell Screen will show for a few moments
      Note: You may experience a delay (1 to 5 minutes) to boot to the Dell Screen with Spinning Circles.
    17. You will see a prompt "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." press the Spacebar to continue.
    18. When prompted, choose your language (English is default)
    19. Choose your region (US Default)
    20. Choose Troubleshoot
    21. Choose Recover from a drive
    22. Choose "Just remove my files", pop up will appear, click the Recovery button
    23. Dell screen – will show "recovering this PC XX%"
    24. The system will Reboot to Windows 10 when the installation is finished


The instructions noted above were modified from the original instructions provided by Dell's support page. The installation process for Windows 10 from a DVD will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on the computer.
